Welcome To Robbinsdale Area Schools The Robbinsdale Area School District takes pride in its strong tradition of achievement in academics and the arts. Our district serves approximately 12,000 K-12 students and a large population of preschool and adult learners with the mission of developing caring, creative and productive citizens. The Robbinsdale Area School District covers seven communities with a population of more than 100,000 residents and 47,000 households in the northwest suburbs of Minneapolis, Minnesota, including all or parts of Brooklyn Center, Brooklyn Park, Crystal, Golden Valley, New Hope, Plymouth and Robbinsdale. We operate nine elementary schools for students in grades K-5, two middle schools for grades 6-8 and two high schools for 9-12. One of our elementary schools, Robbinsdale Spanish Immersion School, is a language magnet program for students in grades K-5. The district also has an alternative high school, Highview Alternative Program, for students who have left a traditional high school program, then decided to return for a high school diploma. College-bound graduates in 2009 had a composite ACT score of 22.6, which is above state and national averages. In 2009, three students were recognized named National Merit Scholars and 115 students were named Advanced Placement (AP) Scholars for high performance on college-level exams. High schools offer more than 180 courses, 13 AP classes and 75 activities. Robbinsdale Area Schools also is home to the International Baccalaureate (IB) Program, a challenging academic program that is recognized and practiced worldwide. Robbinsdale Cooper High School is one of 10 in Minnesota offering the challenging IB program and Robbinsdale Middle School offers the first authorized Middle Years IB Program in the state; more than 600 students are enrolled district-wide. Programs for special education and gifted and talented students are also available at all grade levels. Arts education is emphasized for all ages, and we are proud of our reputation for award-winning programs in drama, music and fine arts. More than 5,000 of our students participate in choir, band and orchestra. Robbinsdale Area Schools developed discipline-based arts education that is now used nationally. District music students perform annually at Orchestra Hall in Minneapolis and at prestigious locations around the world. We are the first school district in the nation to receive the Medallion Award from the Children's Theatre Foundation for exceptional contributions to K-12 theatre, and our school board received the 2002 Arts Education Leadership Award from the Minnesota Alliance for Arts in Education for its commitment to arts education for students. Athletics are also an important part of student life in Robbinsdale Area Schools. Our district offers a full selection of girls and boys athletics. In addition, students may participate in more than 30 extracurricular activities, including chess club, yearbook, Lego League and a many other opportunities. Robbinsdale Area Schools also offers a comprehensive community education program that serves residents from birth through retirement and includes an early childhood family center, family resource center, senior services, adult academic programs and enrichment classes. Whether it is parenting classes, enrichment programs, English classes for new immigrants or G.E.D courses, thousands of district residents are finding lifelong learning in Robbinsdale Area Schools.
