Welcome to Weekend KidPack Initiative.
KidPack is a community initiative to address weekend childhood hunger in our own communities. One in five children live in households which are food insecure. This means families often have to choose between paying the mortgage or rent, health insurance or prescriptions and feeding their family. Children who are hungry are more likely to miss school, visit the school nurse's office and exhibit behavior concerns. Federal school child nutrition programs provide food for qualifying students during the school day. Food shelfs cannot address the need alone.
Faith and community organizations have banded together to raise funds, purchase food through the Emergency FoodShelf Network and provide weekend KidPack bags to elementary students within Robbinsdale Area Schools.
Each elementary school within Robbinsdale Area School has a KidPack parnter. Parents have a choice to opt in or opt out of receiving weekend KidPacks. Each weekend KidPack contains seven to ten food items. The nutritionist at the Emergency Foodshelf Network assists in identifying KidPack food items which are non-perishable and meet approximately 25% of a child's daily nutritional needs. You, too, can help end weekend childhood hunger! To find out more, please contact Melodie Hanson at 763-504-4981 or one of the KidPack partner contacts listed on this page under "Partner Contacts."
