How to Apply for AVID
AVID is a program for students who have a GPA of 2.0-3.5 and a strong desire to go to a four-year college or university. Students in the program take the AVID elective class at the same time they are enrolled in rigorous courses. The class focuses on writing, critical thinking, collaboration, reading, note-taking, study skills and college/career/motivational activities. Students are expected to keep an organized binder and take notes in every class every day of the week. Tutors are in the AVID class twice per week.
The application timeline is a very condensed one in the month of January, with acceptance letters mailed to families the first week of February. In January, students and families will have an opportunity for several information presentations and meetings with staff. Applications are available at both middle schools, at the Education Service Center as well as online here. Applications are due back to the guidance office by January 27, 2016. Students will need a completed teacher recommendation and must also participate in an interview before they will be considered for admission.
